Volgren Australia is celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2024 but there are other big milestones to be celebrated. Our Perth (Malaga) factory is proudly completing its 25th anniversary!

Volgren opened the purpose-built factory in Malaga, Perth in April 1999 and, delivered its first bus to the Public Transport Authority in Perth (PTA) in June 1999. Today, 25 years later, we are delivering the impressive bus number 2,358.

Since its opening, the original facility has gone through multiple transformations including extending operations to on our neighbouring facilities, allowing us to grow and add state of the art fabrication, painting and after sales facilities.

From the initial small team back in 1999, Volgren now directly employs over 100 people, working in 2 shifts, from 5.00 in the morning until 11.00 at night. Our facility is also a hub for skilled professionals for Western Australia, we currently employ 10 apprentices who are upskilling themselves and/or learning new trades that are and will continue to be critical to the manufacturing sector in Australia.

Volgren Malaga has produced a large variety of buses in our 25 years of history, including Double Deckers for Hong Kong, Coaches, School Buses, and Mining Buses. We also dealt with the evolving technology over the years, building vehicles on diesel, CNG and now on the latest Battery Electric technology.

Over the last 25 years, the technology on buses has advanced greatly. Due the great and continuous  support of our Engineering team,  local suppliers, and our long-standing partners Volvo Bus Australia,  we are able to offer our customers market leading products.

Since our inception in April 1999,  Malaga facility has become a cornerstone of Western Australia’s transport manufacturing sector, significantly contributing to the state’s economic vitality and employment landscape. The impact of our presence in Malaga extends far beyond job creation. Each role at Volgren supports local families, aids in career development, and strengthens the community’s social fabric.

As we celebrate this milestone, Volgren Malaga is poised to continue its legacy of innovation and excellence. We stand ready as a trusted partner for PTA and Western Australia, with a proven track record of enhancing local job creation and contributing to community development.

At Volgren, we are not just manufacturing buses; we are forging pathways for local prosperity, reinforcing our belief that an investment in Volgren is an investment in a sustainable and thriving future for our community.
