Powering zero-emissions vehicles
Volgren has spent the last decade carefully planning the transition to zero-emission buses, first with our hybrid bus body, followed by our electric Optimus prototype in 2019. Continual improvement has been the hallmark of the Optimus and in 2023, Volgren will design and deliver our first Optimus-bodied, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus.
With the ability to build on multiple technologies, across our three manufacturing sites, our low and zero emission vehicles now travel the streets of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Unlike other manufacturers, importing complete solutions from overseas, our Optimus E-Bus body builds use close to 100 suppliers and almost 90 percent proportion of local production. Our Optimus E-Bus offers the highest levels of quality in design, engineering and manufacturing – supported by the country’s largest aftersales network.

Our lightweight, corrosion proof, Optimus body has been redesigned for a number of Hydrogen Chassis’. In 2022, Volgren signed a landmark deal with global OEM Wrightbus to introduce, the first European Hydrogen powered fuel cell buses for the Australian market.
The partnership between Volgren and Wrightbus combines Europe’s leading hydrogen chassis manufacturer with Australia’s largest bus body builder.
Hybrid
Our Hybrid vehicles are the perfect example of Volgren designing and introducing new technologies for the Australian market.
Our first Hybrid Optimus Bus Body was designed and built in 2018. Today, we’ve gone on to deliver more than 80 hybrids, building on multiple technologies for operators in New South Wales and Victoria.
Building Hybrids has been an essential learning curve for Volgren and without the experience, we wouldn’t be as advanced on building battery electric buses today.
