Volgren, Australia’s leading bus body manufacturer, is strengthening its presence in South Australia with a new Adelaide facility and its involvement in the delivery of 60 new battery-electric buses for the state.
The expansion marks an important milestone for Volgren, reinforcing the company’s commitment to Australian manufacturing, genuine local content, skilled job creation and the ongoing development of public transport infrastructure across the country.
With a workforce of approximately 500 employees across production facilities and service centres in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales, Volgren’s move into South Australia extends its national footprint while creating new opportunities for local employment and investment in the state’s supply chain.
The Adelaide facility will provide a comprehensive range of services for new and existing customers, giving South Australian bus operators access to locally supported vehicles, expert service and ongoing fleet maintenance.
Volgren has already played an important role in modernising South Australia’s public transport fleet. In partnership with Scania Australia, the company has produced hybrid buses for the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), including 15 vehicles supporting expanded services in the Adelaide Hills.
Volgren has also formalised agreements to provide additional support services to DIT, including the delivery of bus driver security screens, further supporting the safety, reliability and long-term performance of the state’s bus fleet.
Building on this work, Volgren is proud to be part of South Australia’s next chapter in zero-emission public transport following the announcement of 60 new, 100% battery-electric buses.
The investment represents an important step in South Australia’s transition towards cleaner public transport while supporting high-quality Australian manufacturing and strengthening long-term sovereign capability.
Following the successful production and delivery of hybrid vehicles for DIT, the battery-electric bus program provides Volgren with another opportunity to support South Australia’s transition to a more sustainable transport network.
